The Skin Parlor™

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our treatments, booking process, safety standards, and what to expect when you visit us in Newton or Meridian, Mississippi.

Getting Started
  • For most services, a brief consultation is included at the start of your first visit so Dr. Ash or your specialist can understand your skin, your goals, and your health history.

For more involved treatments — like the Metabolic Reset program or injectables — we recommend scheduling a dedicated Ritual Assessment first so we can build a plan that is truly tailored to you.

  • Your first visit begins with a conversation, not a treatment. We take time to listen — your skin history, your concerns, what you have tried before, and what you are hoping to feel.

From there, your specialist will walk you through a personalized recommendation. Nothing is rushed, and nothing is pushed. You leave with a clear plan and the confidence to move forward at your own pace.

  • Absolutely. Many of our clients come to us for the first time feeling uncertain or even a little nervous. That is exactly why we built the experience the way we did — unhurried, educational, and free of pressure.

Whether you are curious about a single treatment or ready to start a full wellness program, we meet you where you are.

  • Yes. The Skin Parlor was designed to be a welcoming space for everyone — men, women, and all bodies. Our treatments are not gendered, and our environment is intentionally calm and inclusive.

Many of our male clients come in for injectables, laser hair removal, IV therapy, and metabolic wellness.

Treatments & Services
  • Both are neuromodulators that relax the muscles responsible for expression lines — forehead, crow's feet, brow. Dysport tends to spread slightly more and may onset a day or two faster, which can be an advantage for larger treatment areas.

Botox is more precise for targeted work. Dr. Ash will recommend the right option based on your anatomy and goals during your consultation.

  • VelaShape uses a combination of infrared light, bi-polar radiofrequency, and vacuum massage to improve the appearance of cellulite, reduce circumference, and smooth skin texture.

It is FDA-cleared and clinically proven safe for all skin tones and body types. There is no downtime, and most clients describe the sensation as a warm deep-tissue massage.

  • We use the GentleYAG Nd:YAG laser, which is specifically designed to be safe and effective on deeper skin tones. Unlike older laser systems, the Nd:YAG wavelength bypasses melanin in the skin and targets the hair follicle directly.

Representation matters to us, and so does safety. The GentleYAG is the gold standard for clients with brown and Black skin.
  • The Metabolic Reset is a comprehensive, physician-guided GLP-1 weight management program using semaglutide and tirzepatide. It includes an initial consultation, a metabolic lab panel, weekly medication plans starting from $35/week, body composition tracking, personalized treatment adjustments, and ongoing wellness coaching.

A $25 deposit is required to book your initial visit, applied toward your first appointment.

  • Most IV infusions take between 45 and 60 minutes. You will be comfortably seated throughout. We offer a range of drips from our foundational Porch Light hydration infusion to the Golden Hour beauty and glow drip, with optional enhancements like glutathione, NAD+, and copper peptide support.

  • Yes — cryotherapy is available at our Newton flagship location as part of our Recovery Ritual program. It is ideal for reducing inflammation, accelerating muscle recovery, and boosting energy.

Wellness Hydrotherapy is also available at Newton for full-body restoration.

GLP-1 & Weight Management
  • Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist — a class of medication originally developed for type 2 diabetes that has been shown to significantly reduce body weight. It works by slowing gastric emptying, reducing appetite, and improving insulin sensitivity.

Under physician supervision, semaglutide can be a powerful tool for sustainable weight management when combined with lifestyle support.

  • Both are GLP-1 medications used for physician-guided weight management. Tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound) is a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist, meaning it activates two pathways instead of one — which clinical trials suggest may produce greater average weight loss.

Dr. Ash and our medical team will review your health history and goals to determine which medication is the right fit for you.

  • No referral is needed. You can book a Metabolic Reset consultation directly through our website or by calling (769) 298-9480. Our physician team will review your health history, run a metabolic lab panel, and determine whether GLP-1 therapy is appropriate for you — all in one visit.

  • The initial consultation requires a $25 deposit, which is applied to your first visit. Weekly medication plans start from $35/week depending on the medication and dosage. Wellness coaching sessions are $25 each, and a full Metabolic Lab Panel is available for $99.

We offer flexible payment options including Affirm, Klarna, Cherry, CareCredit, Zip, and Afterpay — so you can start without waiting.

Safety & Credentials
  • All treatments at The Skin Parlor™ are performed by certified, credentialed specialists — and every service is delivered under the medical supervision of Dr. Samuel Olaleye, MD & Medical Director, who is Double Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine.

Dr. Ashley Harris, PhD — our Founder and certified aesthetic specialist — leads the vision and culture of care that guides every provider on our team. Whether you are receiving injectables, laser treatments, IV therapy, or metabolic wellness services, you can trust that the hands caring for you are trained, certified, and operating within a physician-supervised clinical framework.

  • Yes. We are a physician-guided medical aesthetics practice, not a traditional day spa. That distinction matters to us. Every treatment protocol is reviewed through a clinical lens, and your safety and outcomes are held to a medical standard of care.

  • Yes — and this is something we take seriously. We use the GentleYAG Nd:YAG laser for hair removal, which is the gold standard for deeper skin tones. Our team is trained in treating melanin-rich skin safely and effectively.

Representation in medical aesthetics matters to us, and we have built our practice to serve all skin tones with the same level of care and precision.

  • Please let us know during your consultation or when booking. Certain conditions and medications may affect which treatments are appropriate for you. We take a thorough health history before any treatment and will always recommend the safest, most effective path forward — even if that means referring you to another provider.

  • Yes — we offer two adolescent programs designed to support young people from the inside out.

The Rylee Ritual™ is our medical-grade acne and brightening facial for clients ages 13–17. It is a 60-minute treatment that includes a skin consultation, gentle medical-grade cleanse, enzyme resurfacing, acne clarifying treatment, gentle extractions, brightening mask, LED light therapy, barrier recovery, and personalized home care guidance — all for $50. The Rylee Reset™ bundles six treatments with progress photos and a written home care plan for $349.

The Elevate Program™ is our physician-led adolescent metabolic and lifestyle medicine program for ages 10–17. At $150 per month, it includes monthly physician progress visits, nutrition coaching, sleep optimization, screen time strategies, movement planning, and parent partnership support. For qualifying patients ages 12 and older, bi-weekly semaglutide therapy is available — semaglutide is FDA-approved for adolescent obesity treatment. For patients ages 10–11, semaglutide therapy is considered on a case-by-case basis under physician discretion.

A parent or guardian must be present for all adolescent appointments.

  • The Elevate Program™ is a physician-guided adolescent metabolic and lifestyle medicine program designed to help young people build healthy habits before disease develops. It is appropriate for adolescents ages 10–17 who have a family history of Type 2 Diabetes or Obesity, prediabetes, elevated BMI, insulin resistance, PCOS, elevated cholesterol, poor sleep habits, a sedentary lifestyle, or concerns about future health risks.

For qualifying patients ages 12 and older, the program includes bi-weekly semaglutide therapy — FDA-approved for adolescent obesity treatment in patients 12 and older. For patients ages 10–11, semaglutide therapy is considered on a case-by-case basis under physician discretion when clinically appropriate. Semaglutide medication is billed separately through pharmacy and is not included in the monthly program fee.

Every participant begins with a comprehensive Initial Elevate Assessment — a full review of medical history, family history, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, physical activity, and screen time, resulting in a personalized wellness roadmap.

Monthly enrollment is $150 per month. We recommend a 6–12 month commitment because meaningful, sustainable change takes time. Flex Pay is available with automatic monthly billing and no credit check required.

The program is led by Dr. Ashley Harris, PhD, and is offered at both our Newton and Meridian locations.
