The Woman in the Mirror

There comes a moment in many women's lives when they realize the conversation was never really about the relationship. It was about themselves. The relationship was simply the mirror.

here comes a moment in many women's lives when they realize the conversation was never really about the relationship.

It was about themselves.

The relationship was simply the mirror.

For years, women have been told that love requires sacrifice. That a good woman endures. That loyalty means staying. That strength means carrying more than her share. We are praised for our resilience while quietly bleeding ourselves dry.

And then one day, usually after enough disappointment, enough dismissals, enough moments where we abandoned ourselves to keep the peace, we ask a different question:

What if my relationship with myself matters just as much as my relationship with anyone else?

That question changes everything.

Eartha Kitt Was Right

On knowing yourself before sharing yourself.
On knowing yourself before sharing yourself.

One of my favorite quotes from Eartha Kitt came from an interview where she spoke about relationships.

"I fall in love with myself, and I want someone to share it with me. I want someone to share me, with me."

Eartha Kitt

What a radical concept.

Not finding someone to complete you. Not finding someone to rescue you. Not finding someone to validate your worth. Simply finding someone who can appreciate the woman you already are.

Too often women are taught that love is merging. Eartha taught that love is sharing. The difference is profound. One requires losing yourself. The other requires knowing yourself.

"You Don't Own Me"

Long before empowerment became a marketing slogan, Lesley Gore was singing words that would become an anthem for generations of women.

"You don't own me."

Lesley Gore

Simple. Direct. Revolutionary.

The song was never about rebellion against love. It was about preserving identity inside of it. Because healthy love does not require ownership. Healthy love does not diminish your voice. Healthy love does not make you smaller so someone else can feel bigger. Healthy love allows two whole people to stand side by side without either person disappearing.

Women often lose themselves gradually. Not in one catastrophic moment. But in small compromises. The dreams that get delayed. The opinions left unsaid. The boundaries softened. The needs minimized. The peace they keep at the expense of their own.

And then one day they look up and wonder where they went. The answer is usually simple. They stopped choosing themselves.

The First Wives Club Lesson

The lesson was never "get even." It was: get yourself back.
The lesson was never "get even." It was: get yourself back.

One of the reasons The First Wives Club became iconic is because it wasn't really about revenge. It was about remembrance. Three women who spent years believing their value had diminished because someone else failed to recognize it. Then they remembered who they were.

The lesson wasn't: "Get even." The lesson was: Get yourself back.

That is the journey so many women eventually find themselves on. Not reclaiming a man. Not reclaiming a marriage. Not reclaiming a title. Reclaiming themselves.

The woman who existed before the disappointment. Before the heartbreak. Before the self-doubt. Before the endless emotional labor. Because she is still there. Waiting.

The Luxury Myth

There is an old saying: "I'd rather cry in a Rolls-Royce than a Honda." I understand what people mean. The idea is that wealth somehow softens suffering. That success makes heartbreak easier. That luxury cushions loneliness.

But if you ask me? I'd rather not cry at all.

Not because life is perfect. Not because pain can be avoided. But because I think women deserve more than choosing the prettier version of misery.

Too many women are taught to upgrade their circumstances without upgrading their standards. A bigger house. A better title. A nicer car. A prettier ring. Yet they remain emotionally exhausted. Emotionally unseen. Emotionally unsupported.

The goal is not to suffer in luxury. The goal is to build a life where your peace is not constantly being negotiated.

A woman should never have to trade emotional well-being for lifestyle. Not in a Rolls-Royce. Not in a Honda. Not anywhere.

Women's Health Is More Than Hormones

At The Skin Parlor™, we talk about skin. We talk about wellness. We talk about confidence. But the truth is, women's health is about far more than what appears in the mirror.

Chronic stress shows up on the skin. Heartbreak shows up in the body. Anxiety affects sleep. Poor sleep affects hormones. Hormonal imbalance affects energy. Low energy affects movement. Everything is connected.

The body keeps score of what the heart carries. And many women are carrying too much.

The invisible labor. The emotional management. The fixing. The nurturing. The anticipating. The constant effort of making sure everyone else is okay.

Sometimes the most powerful wellness intervention isn't another supplement. It's a boundary. Sometimes the most powerful act of self-care isn't a facial. It's saying no. Sometimes the most healing thing a woman can do is stop abandoning herself.

What I Hope Women Remember

I hope women remember that they are allowed to have standards. I hope they remember that kindness is not weakness. I hope they remember that being nurturing does not mean being available for mistreatment. I hope they remember that love and accountability can coexist. I hope they remember that peace is not selfish. I hope they remember that their needs matter.

Most importantly, I hope they remember that the relationship they have with themselves sets the standard for every other relationship in their life.

The woman in the mirror deserves care. She deserves protection. She deserves tenderness. She deserves honesty. She deserves respect. Not after she earns it. Not after she proves herself. Not after she sacrifices enough. Now. Exactly as she is.

Because the greatest love story a woman will ever experience is the one she writes with herself. And when she finally understands that? Everything changes.
